From coffee chats to big wins

Starting a new role comes with its challenges and rewards, but for Mareta the sense of collaboration has stood out the most.

Starting a new role comes with its challenges and rewards, but for Mareta, who joined SPYNE as a Controller in September, the sense of collaboration has stood out the most. “Tuesdays in Amsterdam are a highlight, catching up over coffee and diving into challenges together always leads to fresh perspectives”, she shares. With a culture that values both independence and teamwork, SPYNE has quickly become a place where Mareta feels inspired to grow in her role.

Finding joy in collaboration

For Mareta, the heart of her work lies in collaboration, whether it’s with SPYNE colleagues or clients. “I really look forward to Tuesdays, working in Amsterdam with Luuk and Paul”, she says. “It never feels like, ‘Oh, I have to go to the office.’ It’s about grabbing coffee, catching up, and having conversations that spark new ideas. We brainstorm ways to tackle challenges, and those informal chats lead to some of the best solutions.”

This focus on collaboration extends beyond the office. “Being part of a smaller team means you really get to know each other, not just professionally but personally. Attending Luuk’s wedding recently was a great example. It shows how tight-knit the team is. It’s not just business; there’s a connection.”

Tackling new challenges

Adjusting to a role that combines external client work with SPYNE’s internal goals has been a rewarding challenge for Mareta: “One of the things I’ve learned is how crucial clear communication is, especially when working with clients across Europe”, she explains. “Sometimes there are misunderstandings or gaps in expectations, but I’ve found that a quick call or face-to-face alignment can solve a lot. Being transparent with clients goes a long way.”

This pragmatic approach is at the heart of SPYNE’s ethos; ensuring that even the most complex challenges are tackled with clarity and purpose.

Ambition meets opportunity

Even in these early weeks, Mareta has embraced SPYNE’s ownership mindset. “Paul trusted me right from the start to take the lead in meetings and guide clients through their admin processes”, she shares. “At one client, I’m the only SPYNE representative, so I’m fully responsible for delivering quality results. That trust – both from SPYNE and the client – has been empowering.”

Looking ahead, Mareta is eager to expand her expertise. “I’ve only seen about 1% of what’s possible here at SPYNE. We’re growing so fast, with new services like ESG and more recruitment efforts. My focus right now is to grow into my role as a Controller and contribute to these developments.”

Advice for future SPYNE hires

When asked what advice she’d give to someone considering joining SPYNE, Mareta doesn’t hesitate: “You have to have the ambition to shape your own role. SPYNE gives you the space to grow, not just in your role, but in how you can contribute to SPYNE’s overall growth. Whether it’s exploring workshops, attending webinars, or proposing new ideas, there’s room to develop here. It’s a place for everyone, from juniors to seniors.”

A culture that resonates

Straightforward communication and ambition define SPYNE’s culture, two aspects that deeply resonate with Mareta. “I love the no-nonsense approach here. It matches how I work”, she says. “It’s an ambitious environment where you also need to be flexible, and that’s what makes it exciting.”

Mareta’s journey at SPYNE showcases how a supportive, ambitious environment empowers talent to thrive. With her drive and expertise, she’s already making a meaningful impact, and this is just the beginning. We’re looking forward to seeing how her role evolves as SPYNE continues to grow.
